How to Make a Halloween Mini Book and some other Halloween goodies.

Halloween Resource Pack - Easy ESL Games

With Halloween quickly approaching most teachers are on a mad dash to prepare their holiday related lesson plans. We’re hoping to make it a bit easier for you by giving you a few of our favorite Halloween classroom activities.

Make it yourself Halloween Mini Book:

This activity is really easy, fun and adaptable. All you have to do is download the paper book template, preteach the Halloween adjectives, follow the folding directions in the video below and then have your students think of costumes to match each adjective.

  • This activity usually last between 25 and 30 minutes.
  • Students will need crayons, markers or pencil crayons.
  • It’s always easier to pre-slit the dotted lines before class.
  • This activity is designed for students between the ages of 4 and 8 years old.

Draw the Face on the Jack-O-Lantern:

Halloween - Draw the face on the Jack-O-Lantern

This resource is really easy to use. We like using the draw the face on the Jack-O-Lantern-download to teach facial expressions and/or emotions. Simply give each student a copy of the hand out and ask them to draw a specific type of facial feature eg, “scary eyes”, “little teeth” or a “funny nose”. Experience has taught me that when using this activity, students will never stop surprising you with their creativity and imagination.

  • This activity usually last 10 and 15 minutes.
  • Students will need crayons, markers or pencil crayons.
  • This activity is designed for students between the ages of 3 and 6 years old.

Halloween Wordsearch
Spooky Word Search for 7 – 10 year olds:

Word Searches are a tried and true staple in any language class. To make things a little more exciting we like to divide the class into teams. Ask the entire class to turn their Halloween Word Searches facedown onto their desks. Teach one of the words included in the activity and then say “GO”. Students then have to turn their Halloween Word Searches over and race to find the word you just taught. The first team to have all of their members find and circle the correct word, wins the round. Turn the Word Search facedown and repeat as necessary.

  • This activity usually last 10 and 20 minutes.
  • Students will need pencils.
  • This activity is designed for students between the ages of 7 and 10 years old.

Spooky Word Search for 4 – 6 year olds:

This word search is a little bit easier than the one above. With younger kids we like to divide the class into teams, give each team a copy of the word search and then have the students work together as a team to find the answers.

For classes that are a little more advanced we like to add a timer. When you say “go” start the timer. When one team finds that word, stop the timer (for example, let’s say there was 10 seconds on the timer) and award that team 2 points.

The other teams then get that same amount of time that was left on the timer (10 seconds) to continue to trying to find the same word. If they can find the word within the given time limit they are awarded one point if they can’t find the word they do not receive any points.

  • This activity usually last 10 and 20 minutes.
  • Students will need pencils.
  • This activity is designed for students between the ages of 7 and 10 years old.
